In the 2025 Madrid Open semi-finals, Coco Gauff defeated Iga Swiatek with a score of 6-1, 6-1 in just 64 minutes. The American tennis player reached the first final of this tournament, facing Aryna Sabalenka.
Gauff had an impressive performance, making only 8 self-defeating errors in the entire match, compared to 28 errors by the opponent. The 21-year-old has now won three consecutive matches against Swiatek.
Sharing after the match, the American star said: "I think I am proud of the spirit I had throughout the match. Maybe Swiatek wasn't in the best form today, but I think I caused her trouble, and I'm really happy with the way I played today."
This has not been a very smooth season for Swiatek, as she has not reached the finals of any tournament. The Polish tennis player has become a former Madrid champion and will now continue to aim to defend two more titles in the coming weeks, the Italian Open and the French Open.
The 2025 Madrid Open women's singles final will take place at 4:00 p.m. on March 3 between Coco Gauff and world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka.
Gauff won against Sabalenka in his only previous encounter on clay in Rome 2021. The American tennis player also won in the most recent confrontation at WTA Finals Riyadh 2024.
However, Sabalenka has the advantage with his extensive experience at the Madrid Open. She has a 22-4 record throughout her tournament career, winning the championship in 2021 and 2023, reaching the 2024 finals.
