While the US Open's aftermath has yet to settle and 2024 still has major events like the ATP Finals and WTA Finals, it's worth looking to 2025 to see how the Grand Slams will play out.
2025 is set to be more competitive and unpredictable than ever. It will be the year that young players like Mirra Andreeva break through in the women's game, with familiar contenders Aryna Sabalenka, Iga Swiatek, Coco Gauff and Elena Rybakina pushing for the title, while Jessica Pegula, Zheng Qinwen, Jasmine Paolini and Ons Jabeur are chasing the top group.
For the men, there is of course Novak Djokovic, Jannik Sinner , Carlos Alcaraz, Alexander Zverev and Daniil Medvedev, but there is also Rafael Nadal lurking in the hunt for the ultimate glory.
Also on the hunt for their first Grand Slam title are Andrey Rublev, Grigor Dimitrov, Casper Ruud and Holger Rune, along with breakout stars Jack Draper…
Australian Open (Reigning champions: Sinner and Sabalenka)
2025 Men's Champion: Djokovic
2024 will be the second time since 2010 that Djokovic has failed to win a Grand Slam, despite achieving his Olympic gold medal target. But he is not done yet. The fire is still burning and he will want to compete with the younger players. So he will return to Melbourne to win his 11th title there.
Women's Champion 2025: Sabalenka
After her 2024 US Open win, Sabalenka looked like a dominant force on hard courts. She could have won more Grand Slams in 2024 if she hadn't gotten sick at the French Open, and then suffered a shoulder injury before Wimbledon.
French Open (Defending champions: Alcaraz and Swiatek)
2025 Men's Champion: Alcaraz
Expect an emotional Roland Garros if this is Nadal's last appearance. But 2024 has been heralded as a passing of the torch. It's Alcaraz's world on clay now. On clay, Carlitos is at home.
Women's Champion 2025: Swiatek
Swiatek is an incredible force on clay. The Pole can drop a set and still find a way to reach an even higher standard. There will be challenges, but clay seems to be the place for Swiatek.
Wimbledon (Defending champions: Alcaraz and Barbora Krejcikova)
2025 Men's Champion: Jack Draper
It's a tough call, because barring an anomaly, Djokovic , Alcaraz, Sinner are all there. But be bold and dream, and perhaps it's Draper's time. Time to succeed Andy Murray as Great Britain's flag bearer.
Women's Champion 2025: Ons Jabeur
Who would have thought Marketa Vondrousova and Krejcikova would win the last two Wimbledons? So the English courts are not easy to predict.
There could be as many as 20 candidates, but after a disappointing and injury-plagued 2024, if Jabeur can regain the form of 2022 and 2023 - reaching two consecutive finals, then he will have his first Grand Slam.
US Open (Defending champions: Sinner and Sabalenka)
2025 Men's Champion: Sinner
2025 may see another surge of Americans - Frances Tiafoe, Ben Shelton, Taylor Fritz - but 2025 will be Sinner's year, as he remains so good on hard courts.
2025 Women's Champion: Gauff
The 2024 US Open didn't go as planned for Gauff, with an early exit. But 2025 won't be a repeat. Gauff's career has been cyclical: A stellar 12 months are followed by a similar period of consolidation. 2025 will be Gauff's year again.
