Severe cyber attacks increase in the food industry

NGUYỄN ĐĂNG |

serious cyber attacks on developed industries, education, healthcare, etc. have decreased significantly in 2024.

These are the latest statistics after analysis from Kaspersky Managed detection and Response (MDR) solutions. Accordingly, the highest rate of MDR use in Europe is 40%, the Community of Independent States CIS (21%), Asia - Pacific (13%)...

Compared to 2023, the number of network incidents in the fields of mass media, industrial development and telecommunications has increased significantly.

However, when carefully analyzing serious incidents and incidents with direct involvement of hackers, experts found a clear difference in target allocation.

In 2024, the MDR team discovered that the IT industry (23%), government agencies (18%) and industry (18%) were the areas most affected by these attacks.

However, cybersecurity attacks, with direct human intervention, on government agencies and developed industries, have decreased significantly in 2024, in contrast to the strong growth in the food industry. In addition, the number of incidents in the retail and telecommunications sectors also recorded a slight increase.

Notably, although the mass media sector has witnessed an explosion in the number of incidents, serious attacks have been effectively controlled, showing no signs of increasing. This proves the ability to detect and prevent in time, successfully limiting serious attacks.

Mr. Sergey soldatov - Director of the Security Operations Center (SOC) at Kaspersky - said that in 2024, the cybersecurity landscape has changed a lot. Severe attacks are increasingly focused on the food industry, showing the importance of security measures in this field.

Although the total number of incidents in the telecommunications and mass media industries has increased sharply, the ability to detect and disable threats quickly has helped reduce risks, showing the important role of proactive defense measures.

As attackers become more sophisticated, organizations need to adapt by investing in advanced cybersecurity solutions, combined with modern technology and expert supervision, soldatov said.

To improve defense against increasingly sophisticated cyber attacks, organizations should deploy strong cybersecurity solutions and hire experienced experts to manage the system.

At the same time, organizations and businesses are recommended to use effectively managed cybersecurity services. These services provide comprehensive solutions from threat detection, continuous protection to incident handling, and sophisticated surveillance of intrusion activities to be able to respond promptly even when the organization does not have a team of personnel specializing in cyber security.
