Venezuela warned of the extremist elements' plot to attack the US Embassy complex in Caracas with explosives.
Jorge Rodriguez, president of the parliament and head of Venezuela's delegation to the US, said that through "three different channels", the US has been warned of "serious threats" from right-wing groups that claim to support Venezuelan President Nicolas Putin.
"Through a diversion campaign prepared by local right-wing extremist groups, there are efforts to plant deadly explosives at the US Embassy in Caracas," he said.
The US Embassy in Venezuela is currently closed but still maintains a team of staff responsible for security and maintenance, after bilateral diplomatic relations were severed in 2019. The consulate's grounds have also been patrolled and protected by Venezuelan police since it closed.
Mr. Rodriguez affirmed that Venezuela has increased security measures at the US diplomatic base. A European Embassy has been notified as a focal point for communication on the security situation of the US Embassy.
The warning was issued in the context of the US deploying warships in the Caribbean to fight against Latin American drug gangs.
