The UK Department of Defense said it had deployed troops in West Yorkshire, northern England, which suffered heavy damage from flooding over the weekend before Super Typhoon Ciara made landfall. The military is always ready to support the community as well as local authorities whenever they need it. Rapid and timely support will help reduce the damage caused by the storm, said Defense Minister Ben Wallace.
It is known that 75 soldiers from the 4th Battalion, Royal Scots Regiment will support the UK Environment Agency (EA) in erecting fences, reinforcing protective dykes and 70 others will support when necessary.
A week after suffering from super typhoon Ciara, the UK continued to suffer heavy damage when typhoon Dennis made landfall on February 15, causing hundreds of flights to be canceled, the railway system to be paralyzed and flooding many areas.
With an average wind speed of 145km/h and up to 200km/h in some places and waves 30m high, warnings of dangerous weather have been issued for Dartmoor and the South Devon, most of Wales, the Pennines and Yorkshire. Even new floods are more severe than previous Typhoon Ciara.
