The new agreement between the Australian and Indian Prime Ministers paves the way for uranium exports, adding momentum to the clean energy goal.

Australia will export uranium to India for nuclear energy purposes under an agreement signed by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 9.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said in a statement that he and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have signed an agreement to allow uranium exports to India for peaceful purposes, within the framework of an existing nuclear cooperation agreement, when the two leaders met in Melbourne within the framework of the third annual Australia-India summit.

Speaking to reporters with Mr. Modi after the meeting, Mr. Albanese said that relations between Australia and India have never been stronger than that. "We share the goal of deepening and diversifying relations between the two countries, so that we can continue to develop more and more strongly," he said.

Mr. Modi arrived in Melbourne on the evening of July 8 on a three-day official visit, saying that this "important" nuclear energy agreement will add new impetus to India's clean energy goals.

In addition to the uranium deal, the two leaders also agreed to strengthen cooperation on security and culture.
