Officers from the Podlaskie Border Guard Unit (Poland) discovered a tunnel connecting the Belarus-Poland border on October 18.
Home and Administration Minister Marcin Kierwiński later informed about the tunnel in a post on social network X.
"Officers of the Podlaskie Border Guard have discovered a tunnel under a fence on the Polish-Belarus border. The two ends of the tunnel are about 20m from the border on each side. Thanks to advanced electronic systems on the fence, the Polish - Belarus border has been effectively protected! - the head of the Polish Ministry of Home Affairs and Administration wrote.
This is the second tunnel dug under the Polish-Belarus border to be discovered this year. The first tunnel is located in the Border Guard Station area in Narewka.
According to local officials, both tunnels were discovered using "advanced electronic systems" recently installed in the area.
In July, a significant part of the Polish-Belarus border was modernized, with the most advanced and modern thermal cameras installed.
The Podlaskie Border Guard also reported more than 60 cases of illegal border crossings recorded on October 17.
Since January 2025, the Polish Border Guard has recorded more than 26,700 cases of illegal border crossings.
The Polish-Belarus border has been the focus of the migration and humanitarian crisis on the eastern flank of the European Union since 2021.
Poland and its allies have accused Belarus of sending migrants from the Middle East and Africa to Belarus and transporting them to the Polish border.
