Cambodia aims to sweep away all fraud lines before Tet

Cambodia is committed to eliminating all cybercrime networks on its territory before the Chol Chnam Thmay Tet in April 2026.

On February 5, the Secretary of State of the Cambodian Ministry of Interior cum Standing Vice Chairman of the National Commission for Combating Human Trafficking (NCCT) - Ms. Chou Bun Eng - said that the above decision was made at the regular meeting on February 3 chaired by Interior Minister Sar Sokha to monitor the progress of the campaign to suppress technology fraud nationwide.

A large-scale nationwide crackdown campaign is taking place and will be further expanded. The government will eliminate all forms of online fraud before the Chol Chnam Thmay Tet holiday" - Ms. Bun Eng said.

According to Ms. Bun Eng, all provincial-level governments are now responsible for reporting on modern crimes - acts that in recent years have damaged the image of the Kingdom of Cambodia.

Cambodian authorities have also drawn many lessons learned, especially in tracing and investigating, thereby improving the effectiveness and accuracy of law enforcement measures.

On behalf of the government, Ms. Bun Eng called on Cambodian people to join hands with local authorities by reporting suspicious activities in residential areas.

All reports will be thoroughly investigated, and if fraud is detected, action will be taken. Only when we cooperate together can we ensure success for the country as well as for the entire region" - Ms. Bun Eng said.

Online scams in Cambodia have exploded rapidly in recent years, including investment, emotional scams, fake jobs, email scams, as well as tricks related to cryptocurrency. Many lines use social networks, messaging applications and online marketplaces to target domestic and foreign victims.

Despite rejecting some reports that the government considers "exaggerated", Cambodia still acknowledges the issue and has strengthened law enforcement.

Prime Minister Hun Manet directly holds the role of Chairman of the Online Anti-Fraudulent Practices Committee (CCOS) - a high-level task force established in February 2025. This committee is tasked with implementing measures to prevent, deter and suppress cyber fraud.

Since this special committee was established, Cambodia has achieved many results in the campaign to crack down on online fraud - mostly run by foreigners.

In the second half of 2025, functional forces conducted operations at 118 suspicious locations nationwide, arresting 4,983 subjects of 23 nationalities.

The crackdown continues to be maintained in 2026, with the arrest and deportation of Chen Zhi - the founder of Prince Corporation and accused of leading online fraud - along with many other raids in many provinces.
