Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a declaration on partnership on September 10 (local time) in Calgary, Alberta province, Canada, according to TASS.
According to the Ukrainian Presidential Office, the document includes cooperation in the fields of defense and security, and aims for the two countries to sign an official agreement on a 100-year partnership in the future.
The two sides also signed a declaration on the localization of defense production in Canada and Ukraine, along with a number of other joint cooperation projects.
An energy cooperation agreement was also signed in the presence of the leaders of the two countries. This document will create conditions for Canada to supply liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Ukraine.
Canada and Ukraine have also completed an agreement to supply anti-aircraft missiles worth 350 million CAD (about 253 million USD) through JUMPSTART, the US mechanism that allows allies to use their financial resources to buy US weapons for Ukraine, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said.
According to the Canadian Prime Minister, Ottawa will also contribute to Ukraine's energy security, including developing energy infrastructure such as fuel storage facilities.
Canada and Ukraine will also strengthen cooperation on important minerals to ensure the reliability of the supply chain, Mr. Carney said.
Thus, the new agreements expand Canada-Ukraine cooperation in many fields, from defense, energy to minerals, in which the interceptor missile package is one of the specific support commitments announced by Ottawa.
