US makes new proposal to end Ukraine conflict
On September 6 (local time), according to AFP, two US special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner brought to Ukraine new proposals to end the conflict with Russia, which were assessed by a senior Kiev official as "more effective".
The two special envoys arrived in Kiev one day after meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow.
President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Ukraine hopes to reach an agreement with the US and continues to rely on the support of European partners if the conflict lasts until winter.
Mr. Zelensky also said that Ukraine will hold discussions with the US, France and Germany, and reiterated the view that territorial issues can only be resolved through a direct meeting with Russian President Putin.
However, the Ukrainian leader assessed that the conflict is likely to continue until winter.
Israel airstrikes Lebanon kill at least 7 people
Also on the same day, at least 7 people were killed in Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon, despite the ceasefire and the framework agreement to end the fighting, according to TASS.
Israel said the attacks targeted Hezbollah forces and facilities in response to a drone attack on Israeli soldiers earlier.
The Lebanese Ministry of Health said at least 20 others were injured, including women and children.
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun called on the US and the international community to urgently act to prevent Israeli attacks. He said that the airstrikes causing damage to state agencies and medical facilities are a dangerous escalation.
Britain blocks boat carrying 140 migrants in the English Channel
According to TASS, British authorities blocked a boat carrying 140 undocumented migrants in the English Channel.
Sources said the boat was heading towards the coast of Hampshire, England from the town of Jobourg in northwestern France. The British Coast Guard and rescue ships, helicopters and aircraft participated in the operation.
The people on the boat were transferred to ships of the British Royal Rescue Society and taken to Portsmouth. They are expected to be transferred to Manston, where there is a accommodation center for migrants.
