The Thai government has just implemented emergency measures to bring people in the Thai - Cambodian border area back to their homes safely, after a period of evacuation due to the conflict. This decision comes with a budget of more than 117 million baht ($3.6 million) to support village security units, contributing to ensuring order and stabilizing livelihoods for the community.
Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Home Affairs Phumtham Wechayachai chaired a meeting with leaders of the border provinces of Surin, Si Sa Ket, buri Ram and Ubon Ratchathani. He emphasized the need to speed up the progress of bringing people back to their homes, repairing damaged infrastructure and taking care of the physical and mental health of the people.
Mr. Phumtham pointed out 5 key tasks including: Mobilizing central agencies such as the Ministry of Transport to support the repatriation; closely coordinating between local mechanisms; surveying and overcoming damage to houses and infrastructure works; exempting electricity and water for households and temporary residence for 2 consecutive months; mobilizing military and civil forces and professional units to carry out repair work using approved budget sources and social contributions.
Government spokesperson Sasikan Wattanachan said that the Insurance Commission (OIC) Office has directed insurance companies to quickly survey the damage and explain the contract terms to shorten the time to resolve the rights of affected people.
The local government will also comprehensively assess livelihoods and community health status to propose a long-term support plan. The goal is to help people on the Thai - Cambodian border quickly restore their lives, production and ensure regional security.
These synchronous measures are expected to strengthen people's confidence and maintain social stability in key areas, which are heavily affected by the conflict.
