CIA attacks Venezuelan seaport facility

The CIA attacked a port facility on the coast of Venezuela with drones in December.

The CIA drone attack on Venezuela's seaport facility in December has never been revealed before.

The attacked seaport is accused by US officials of being used by Venezuela's Tren de Aragua gang to store drugs and transport them onto ships to deliver to other locations, many sources familiar with the matter revealed to CNN on December 29, local time.

At the time the CIA attacked with drones, no one was present at this facility, so no casualties were recorded.

US Special Forces provided intelligence support for this operation.

In an interview on December 29, President Donald Trump also revealed that the US had attacked "the port area where they put drugs on ships". But he declined to comment when asked if the attack was carried out by the military or the CIA.

That was the execution area, where they operated, and now that area is gone," Mr. Trump said.

This attack could significantly escalate tensions between the US and Venezuela.

The US has carried out attacks to destroy more than 30 ships in the Caribbean and eastern Pacific in the anti-drug campaign.

President Donald Trump has also ordered the blockade of oil tankers in Venezuela.
