VNA reported that on the evening of January 15 local time (early morning of January 16 Hanoi time), the plane carrying Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, his wife Le Thi Bich Tran and the Vietnamese delegation arrived at Frederic Chopin Airport, Warsaw, to begin an official visit to the Republic of Poland from January 15-18, at the invitation of Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's visit took place in the context that this year Vietnam and Poland celebrate the 75th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations, demonstrating Vietnam's appreciation for the long-standing friendship with traditional friends in Central Eastern Europe, including Poland.
During this working trip, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh is expected to hold talks and meetings with senior leaders of Poland, including President Andrzej Duda, Prime Minister Donald Tusk, Speaker of the House of Representatives Szymon Holownia, and President of the Senate Malgorzata Kidawa-Blonska. The Prime Minister will visit and deliver a policy speech at the University of Warsaw; visit the National Institute for Cyber Security - NASK; receive leaders of the Vietnam-Poland Friendship Parliamentarians' Group; attend the Vietnam-Poland Business Forum and receive leading Polish economic groups.
The Prime Minister met with officials and staff of the Embassy and representatives of the Vietnamese community in Poland; attended the Homeland Spring 2025 program and wished a happy New Year to overseas Vietnamese in Poland.
In an interview with the press, Vietnamese Ambassador to Poland Ha Hoang Hai said that Poland recognized and established diplomatic relations with Vietnam very early, on February 4, 1950. The Polish people always have good feelings for the country and people of Vietnam. Poland actively supported Vietnam in the resistance wars to save the country. Poland was the only country to send thousands of officers to participate in both the Armistice Commissions after the Geneva Agreement in 1954 and the Paris Agreement in 1973.
Today, Poland is Vietnam's number 1 trading partner in Central Eastern Europe, while Vietnam is Poland's 7th largest trading partner outside the EU. Vietnam and Poland are both dynamically developing countries in the region, with increasingly enhanced roles and positions.
The Prime Minister's visit to Poland contributes to promoting the adoption of Poland's role in the EU to strengthen cooperation between Vietnam - Poland in particular and Vietnam - EU in general.
VNA quoted Polish Ambassador to Vietnam Joanna Skoczek as saying that this will be the first visit by a Vietnamese Prime Minister to Poland in 15 years. In addition to its political importance, the visit will also promote strong economic cooperation with great potential, boosting business relations between the two countries, especially in the energy transition or digitalization needs.
Poland can present its successes in the digitalization of public services, such as e-health or “mobile citizenship”. The dynamic development of digital services has been accelerated during the COVID-19 pandemic in Poland, allowing Polish patients to receive medical advice and prescriptions online without leaving their homes.
"We are ready to discuss our achievements in the green transition, including recycling, emission reduction, water treatment, renewable energy... Therefore, I expect to see many exchanges in the form of business-to-business contacts, thereby promoting business negotiations and signing contracts in the coming months" - Ambassador Joanna Skoczek said.
