After meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin's special advisor, Kirill Dmitriev on December 20, US special advisor Steve Witkoff and Donald Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, met with officials from Ukraine and Europe on December 21, then met privately with the Ukrainian delegation, led by senior official Rustem Umerov.
In a social media post on December 21, US special delegate Steve Witkoff said the December 21 talks were "effective and constructive" and focused on "a common strategic approach between Ukraine, the US and Europe". He did not mention negotiations with Russia.
These meetings are the latest in a series of negotiations between the US, Russia and Ukraine on the US-drafted 20-point plan to end the conflict.
Mr. Witkoff said that the US-Ukraine meeting focused on four main points: Continuing to develop the 20-point plan, a multilateral security framework, a US security framework for Ukraine and continuing to develop the economy and prosperity to rebuild Ukraine.
The negotiators focused on the roadmap and the order of the next steps, Witkoff noted.
Earlier last week, US, Ukrainian and European officials also informed about the progress made in ensuring security for Ukraine in the framework of negotiations to end the conflict, but it was still unclear whether the terms would be accepted by Russia.
