Russian Ambassador to Germany Sergey Nechayev said that the German investigation into the sabotage of the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines is still in a state of stagnation, with no clear answers about the perpetrator or the person behind the attack.
In an interview with Apolut news site, Ambassador Nechayev emphasized: "It has been more than 3 years since the terrorist attacks on Nord Stream, but there is still no clear answer on who was the perpetrator and who was behind the attack on Europe's largest energy infrastructure."
The top Russian diplomat noted that Moscow has repeatedly proposed to coordinate to conduct an objective and transparent investigation. However, all requests from Russia have not received any response.
National investigations in Sweden and Denmark have stopped, while the German investigation is still at a standstill, the Russian ambassador to Germany said.
Ambassador Sergey Nechayev also noted that in the current context, Germany's remaining silent response to the Polish government's move - refusing to extradite the Nord Stream suspect to Germany - is noteworthy.
According to Mr. Nechayev, the consequences of the Nord Stream sabotage have first of all caused direct damage to the interests of German people and businesses.
Unfortunately, once again, political considerations are placed on economic reasons and national interests, the Russian Ambassador said.
On September 26, 2022, three branches of the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines were severely damaged in an unprecedented sabotage. After the incident, Russia opened a criminal case, considering this an act of international terrorism.
