CNN has posted a video that appears to show the collection of supercars belonging to ousted Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, kept in a garage near his main residence in the capital Damascus.
Video verified by CNN shows more than 40 luxury vehicles in a large warehouse in western Damascus.
The video that has gone viral on social media is said to show only a portion of the massive luxury car collection. There are three red cars featured in the video. Among them is a Ferrari F50, worth between $3 million and $4.5 million.
The F50 was built to celebrate Ferrari’s 50th anniversary. With only 349 ever made, it’s one of the most sought-after cars in existence. Earlier this year, a restored F50 sold at auction for $5.5 million.
Next to the F50 is a Ferrari F430 Spider and a Lamborghini Diablo. Next to it is an Aston Martin Rapide, an Audi R8, a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG and a Bentley Continental GT.
There were also a number of Mercedes-Benz S-Class sedans, SUVs and even a Rolls Royce Ghost.
At least one of the cars had a Damascus license plate.
The discovery of the supercar collection sparked outrage online, with many criticizing the leader for indulging in personal luxury while millions of Syrians face dire living conditions. The 13-year conflict has displaced millions, leaving many struggling to survive financially.
Syrian rebels raided the presidential palace, taking belongings, taking selfies, posing with guns, shooting in the air and ransacking property.
Videos shared on X show men dragging away furniture and artwork while women rummage through dishes and bed linen.
A video shows what appears to be an arsenal containing dozens of submachine guns.
Mr Assad's palace is a vast, marble fortress perched on a hill on the outskirts of Damascus.
In the face of the surprisingly rapid rebel offensive on December 7, Mr. Assad and his family fled to Moscow and were granted asylum by Russia.
