Information from the US Embassy on September 13 said that on the occasion of the 1st anniversary of the upgrade to the Vietnam - US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, a Trade Delegation with more than 100 members, including 50 representatives of 35 US businesses, representatives of 9 Departments of Agriculture of 9 states and representatives from 21 agricultural product associations under the US Department of Agriculture visited Vietnam.
The trade delegation, with stops in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, was led by Deputy Minister for Agricultural Affairs, US Department of Agriculture Alexis Taylor. This was her second visit to Vietnam in the past two years.
During the press conference, the Deputy Minister shared that the focus of this visit is to connect with major importers through direct meetings between businesses, and to learn about the market conditions in Vietnam and the region through a site visit, meetings with industry experts as well as many bilateral meetings with Vietnamese government officials in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
Deputy Minister Taylor said the Southeast Asian market holds great opportunities for US exporters. Vietnamese consumers are increasingly turning their attention to US products to meet growing demand in the food processing, retail and restaurant industries, with the presence of many high-quality US products such as nuts, fresh fruit, chicken, beef and pork.
“Our presence in Vietnam is comprehensive and ambitious, and we regularly work with the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and other government agencies. Our team works tirelessly to help Vietnam improve its regulatory infrastructure and science-based decision-making processes, open markets for US products into Vietnam, maximize residue limits, use fertilizers correctly, sustainability and more,” said Deputy Minister Taylor.
The visit of the US Trade Delegation comes after Vietnam opened its market for US peaches and nectarines to enter Vietnam, and also in the context of the two countries celebrating the first anniversary of upgrading the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, when the leaders of the two countries reaffirmed the importance of economic, trade, investment cooperation and comprehensive economic growth based on innovation as the core foundation and driving force for the bilateral relationship.
