The attackers were killed by Thai armed forces on the morning of February 9, ending an overnight siege lasting more than 17 hours at Terminal 21 shopping mall in Nakhon Ratchasima Prefecture.
The Thai Prime Minister is in Nakhon Ratchasima to visit the victims of the tragedy.
Reuters quoted Prime Minister prayut Chan-ocha as saying that the attackers were motivated by hatred related to a land deal that the attackers said was a scam.
Mr. prayut added that there was a conflict between the shooter and the relatives of the commander killed in the incident.
"This is unprecedented in Thailand and I hope this is the last time such a crisis has happened," the Thai Prime Minister said outside the hospital where the victims are being treated.
The attacker was confirmed to be Lieutenant Jakkrapanth Thomma. On the afternoon of February 8, Thomma opened fire to kill the commander and two teammates and then stole weapons, ammunition and a Humvee car from the military base.
The attackers then drove to a Buddhist temple and then the Terminal 21 shopping mall in Korat, northeastern Thailand.
This man fired bullets at pedestrians on the road and shopping goers, arresting many people as hostages, leading to a 17-hour siege before this man was killed.
