On August 21, the US Geological Survey (USGS) announced that a 7.5 Category Richter earthquake occurred in the Drake Strait, between South America and the South pole.
According to the USGS, the earthquake occurred at 2:15 p.m. (local time), with a depth of 11km. At the time of the earthquakes, the agency reported an 8-magnitude earthquake.
The USGS said the center of the earthquake was located more than 700km southeast of the city of Ushuaia, Argentina, which has about 57,000 people.
The Chilean Navy confirmed that after the earthquake, it had issued a Tsunami warning to its territory in the South. The center of the impact was determined to be 258km northwest of Frei basic.
Meanwhile, New Zealand's National Emergency Management Agency and GNS Science assessed that the earthquake did not cause a natural song that could affect the country.
"Based on available information, initial assessments show that the earthquake is unlikely to cause a Tsunami affecting New Zealand," the announcement said.
