According to the Earthquake Monitoring Agency under the Thai Meteorological Department (TMD), the earthquake occurred at 9:58 a.m., with a force of 5.4 on the Richter scale and a concussion 10km below ground.
Mr. Natthawut Dandee - Deputy Director General of the Thailand Meteorological Agency and Acting Director of the Earthquake Monitoring Agency - said that the center of the earthquake was located in the Andaman Sea, 211km southwest of Mae Sot District, Tak Province, Northern Thailand.
According to the Department of Natural Resources and Minerals, the earthquake was believed to be caused by a movement along the Sagaing fault, running from North to South through Central Myanmar.
This break was also the cause of the earthquake in Myanmar on March 28, 2025, causing strong aftershocks in Thailand, leading to significant damage and casualties in both countries.
Bangkok residents said they felt dizzy, some witnessed the lights shaking. Most people were in buildings 10 stories higher when they felt the shaking.
In Din Daeng District, a shake-up occurred inside a building where the Ministry of Labor headquarters was located and staff ran outside.
A report from the 11th floor of the Prime Building in Klong Toey Nuea, Watthana district said the shaking was felt at around 10am for about 10 seconds.
Other reports of the earthquake were felt in the city from Ratchathewi, Pathum Wan, Bang Kae, Huai Kwang, Phaya Thai, Bang Rak and Khlong San.
According to Santi Pailoplee - professor of geology at Chulalongkorn University, the earthquake was not serious and advised people not to panic. He said that Thais will feel the shaking because the country is on a broken piece.
"This earthquake is not predictive, it is the normal operation of a fracture," he added.
