RT reported that the "Make Greenland Great again" bill, initiated by Representative Andy Ogles, with the support of 10 co-sponsors, stated that President Donald Trump has the right to start negotiations with Denmark immediately after taking office on January 20, 2025.
According to the bill, owning Greenland is absolutely necessary to ensure national security.
Donald Trump has not even ruled out the possibility of using military or economic pressure to achieve this goal. If Denmark really has ownership of Greenland, they should give up because we need it, he said.
Greenland, located between the Atlantic and the North East Sea, is not only the world's largest island but has also been a US military strategic hub since World War II, with a military base and ballistic missile early warning system.
More than 80% of the island's area is covered with ice, but Greenland possesses huge reserves of valuable resources such as gold, silver, copper, uranium and large oil potential. This makes the island an important economic and strategic target.
Greenland leader Mute Egede has stressed that the islanders want independence rather than becoming part of the United States or Denmark. However, he expressed his willingness to "talk" with Mr. Trump, but noted that Mr. Trump's failure to rule out the possibility of using force was a "respective" issue.
A recent survey by research firm patriot Polling (USA) shows that about 57% of Greenlanders surveyed support President-elect Donald Trump's idea of turning the island into US territory. The survey was conducted with 416 participants, coinciding with the time when Mr. Trump's son, Donald Trump Jr., had a personal visit to Greenland.
Greenland has been an autonomous territory of Denmark since 1979 and has the right to declare independence through a future poll. "The desire for independence is something that any nation in the world understands," said Egede.
Meanwhile, Mr. Donald Trump was determined: "Greenland must belong to the United States, and we will do everything to make that happen."
