The latest typhoon information from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said that there is a possibility of 8 to 14 typhoons forming or moving into the Philippine Forecast Area (PAR) within the next 6 months.
This is the period when typhoons are typically active due to high sea temperatures and the rainy season in the Philippines has also begun.
Jeremiah Morales, a weather expert in Pagasa's climate forecasting and monitoring department, said that the El Nino - Southern oscillation (ENSO) phenomenon is in a neutral state, so many weather systems that cause rain are more active, especially starting in May, coinciding with the time when the Southwest monsoon (Hagabat) begins.
According to the Philippine State Weather Agency, the rainy season is expected to start in the western parts of the country at the end of May. This is the time when the southwest monsoon begins to form and interact with developing low pressure systems.
It is forecasted that, many areas, especially Luzon and Visayas, may have a larger rainfall than normal to heavy rain from May to September, which can cause floods and landslides in areas that are at risk of landslides.

At the next climate conference on April 23, PAGASA may provide more information on how weather trends are changing and forecast tropical storms in the remainder of 2025.
In the forecast of storms in early January 2025, the Weather Agency Pagasa said that there were 2 to 8 storms expected to be formed inside or entered the Philippine Par forecast area from January to June to June 2025. In January, February, March and April may have 1 storm while May and June can record up to 2 storms per month.
January to May is generally considered a quiet period for tropical depression and storm activity in the northwest Pacific basin, an area that includes the Philippines.
Along with the storm forecast, PAGASA also announced a list of storm names for the 2025 storm season, including Auring, Bising, Crising, Dante, Emong, Fabian, etc.
In the 2025 typhoon season list, Jacinto, Mirasol and Opong are the replacement names for Jolina, Maring and Odette - typhoons that have stopped operating after causing major damage to the Philippines in 2021.
In 2024, 17 storms appeared in the Philippines forecast area, with 6 storms of which continuously attacked North Luzon in just 4 weeks: Hurricane Kristine (international name Trami), Super Typhoon Leon (Kong-Rey), Storm Marce (Yinxing), Hurricane Nika (Toraji), Typhoon ofel (USAGI), Super Typhoon Pepito (Man Yi).
