USA Today's latest hurricane report, citing a hurricane forecast from Colorado State University experts, said there is a possibility of up to 17 storms in the Atlantic Ocean in the 2025 hurricane season, with 9 of these expected to strengthen into hurricanes.
Notably, Colorado State University's early hurricane forecast also includes information on the risk of hurricane impacts for each state in the US. These calculations predict the possibility of the storm passing within the state's 80 km range.
The highest risk of storms is Florida, with 92% of the influence of a storm and 65% of the ability to be affected by a hurricane storm. In addition, there are 35% of the possibility of a great hurricane storm will appear within 80 km of this state.
US hurricane forecasters point out that the lowest risk for this year's Atlantic hurricane season is in New England but should not be underestimated. Rhode Island is next expected to see a 25% chance of being hit by a typhoon and a 9% chance of being hit by a strong typhoon.
In Alabama, the likelihood of being affected by storms and hurricanes is 67% and 34%, respectively. There is a 10% chance of a major hurricane appearing within an 80 km radius of Alabama, according to Colorado State University hurricane experts.
There is a 72% chance of a hurricane and a 37% chance of a major hurricane in Georgia. In Louisiana, this year's hurricane season has a 74% chance of being affected by storms and a 46% chance of being affected by major hurricanes. There is also an 18% chance of a major hurricane causing impacts within an 80 km radius around Louisiana.
This year, 76% of the likelihood of storms and 46% of the chance of hurricane storms in Northern Carolina. In South Carolina, 66% of the likelihood of storms and 35% of the chance of hurricane storms.
There is a 70% chance of a hurricane and a 44% chance of a major hurricane, as well as a 19,9% chance of a major hurricane within an 80 km radius of the state of Texas.
Colorado State University's forecast is one of many important forecasts released this spring.
AccuWeather's storm forecast released last week said that there are 13-18 named storms, including 7-10 hurricanes.

Colorado State University hurricane forecasters say there is a 51% chance of a major hurricane making landfall in the US coastal area during the 2025 hurricane season. Based on data from 1880 to 2020, the average chance of a hurricane making landfall on the US coast is 43%. A major hurricane has a wind speed of 180 km/h or more.
