Gas reserves in UGS facilities in Germany, the leading European country in storage capacity, have decreased to 39.7%.
Other countries with the world's leading gas storage capacity are also actively using reserve fuels. UGS facilities in France are storing at 39%, Austria at 51.5%, Italy at 62.6% and the Netherlands at 33.3%.
Gas storage facilities are at 47.9% in Slovakia, 48.5% in Hungary, 54.2% in the Czech Republic, 57.3% in Romania, 59.8% in Bulgaria, 38.3% in Belgium, 40.2% in Denmark, 35.4% in Latvia and 25.7% in Croatia.
The previous gas exploitation season from underground storage in Europe ended on March 28, 2025, with the remaining reserves at that time being 33.57%.
Currently, underground storage in Europe is storing at 47.63% (14.85% lower than the average of the previous 5 years) and lower than the 58.4% of the same period last year.
Since the warming season began on October 13, 2025, EU countries have exploited about 44 billion m3 of gas from storage. Net exploitation has exceeded 39 billion m3. The total amount of fuel in underground storage is currently 52.6 billion m3.
