1.5 billion USD gas pipeline connects Bosnia with Croatia, Russia loses more market share

Croatia and Bosnia sign agreement on building gas pipelines to reduce energy dependence on Russia in the Balkans.

The new Southern Interconnection gas pipeline will connect Bosnia with Croatia's gas network and the liquefied natural gas (LNG) port on Krk Island located in the Adriatic Sea.

Bosnia has appointed the US company AAFS Infrastructure and Energy as the investor and project development unit.

Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic and President of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia Borjana Kristo signed an agreement with the witness of US Energy Secretary Chris Wright on April 28 on the sidelines of the summit of countries in the Baltic, Black Sea and Adriatic regions.

Sharing on social networks, Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic emphasized that this new gas pipeline will help diversify gas supplies.

We are strengthening energy security and independence, which is particularly important in the current challenging global context.

Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia Borjana Kristo called this "a momentous day for both countries".

Currently, Bosnia imports almost all of its gas from Russia through pipelines passing through neighboring Serbia and through Bulgaria via the TurkStream pipeline.

Local media reported that the investment in the new gas pipeline could be up to 1.5 billion USD.

The US delegation also witnessed the signing ceremony with Deputy Secretary of State for Political Affairs Allison Hooker. In a discussion session, Deputy Secretary Allison Hooker emphasized that the US can help the region reduce energy dependence on Russia and promote economic growth.

In another development, investment group Pantheon Atlas LLC (USA) announced plans to develop a super-scale AI data center and innovation zone worth 50 billion euros (about 58 billion USD) in Croatia. A memorandum of understanding has been signed with Koncar Group of Croatia as a local partner.
