According to Xinhua News Agency, at an online press conference in Kabul on July 28 (local time), the spokesman for the Taliban government in Afghanistan, Mr. Zabihullah Mujahid, said that in the past year, the country has restored and preserved nearly 2,000 historical artifacts to preserve and promote national cultural heritage values.
Of which, 1,180 artifacts are restored at the National Museum of Afghanistan, and 815 other artifacts are being preserved at museums in Logar, Ghazni, Herat and Badghis provinces.
According to Mr. Mujahid, security forces also seized 134 smuggled historical artifacts at Kabul International Airport, thereby preventing artifacts from being illegally transported abroad.
In the past time, Afghan authorities have discovered and officially registered 44 new archaeological sites in Kabul, Logar, Parwan, Baghlan and Paktia provinces.
At the same time, 1,695 historical artifacts were handed over to the National Museum of Afghanistan for preservation and storage.
Mr. Zabihullah Mujahid emphasized that the illegal possession, trading or smuggling of historical artifacts, antiques and gemstones are strictly prohibited. Violations will be handled according to regulations.
