According to AFP, the Hamas movement has informed the Peace Council chaired by US President Donald Trump that this organization still maintains its commitment to the latest phase of the plan.
According to this content, Hamas will hand over weapons to a new Palestinian management committee established in the Gaza Strip.
A Hamas official told AFP on August 8 (local time), that Hamas and other parties have confirmed with the intermediaries that they are ready to begin implementing the agreement and move to phase 2. However, the condition is that Israel must agree and begin implementing the contents of the agreement.
This official said that Hamas is urging the US government to put pressure on Israel to force it to comply with the agreement.
Last week, US President Donald Trump assessed Hamas's agreement to disarm according to the plan as an important step forward. The Peace Council said that Israel will phase out troops from most of the Gaza Strip.
However, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on August 4 affirmed that Israel has not agreed with the draft issued by the Peace Council.
A day earlier, Mr. Netanyahu met with senior representative of the Gaza Peace Council Nickolay Mladenov. After the meeting, Mr. Mladenov said that Israel would only withdraw troops after Hamas completed disarmament.
The Israeli military announced that it will continue operations targeting Hamas. According to AFP, the intensity of Israel's activities in Gaza in recent days seems to have decreased. Gunfires and drone operations are still recorded, but there is no information about airstrikes.
The Gaza Ministry of Health said that Israeli military operations have killed 1,258 Palestinians since October 2025 - the time the two sides reached a ceasefire agreement sponsored by President Trump. Meanwhile, the Israeli military said that 5 of its soldiers were killed in the same period.
