According to Daily Mail, in a statement released on July 25, Spirit Airlines said that flight number 687 had returned to the runway after a couple caused each other hardship. When asked to leave the plane, the couple refused, making the other passengers angry and a bigger argument broke out.
"The Spirit Airlines flight from San Juan, Puerto Rico to Philadelphia (USA) was canceled a few days ago at Luis Muñoz Marin International Airport before takeoff due to the fierce competition between the two passengers. After the flight was canceled, dissatisfaction led to a fight between these two people and another group of passengers. This is an unacceptable act of violence. We thank Puerto Rican police for their intervention," the statement said.
The airline confirmed that at least one of the two people who started the dispatch that caused the trouble had drunk alcohol for tax exemption at the airport and showed signs of being drunk. In the video provided by a passenger, the chaos continued as the plane returned to the runway, with some people punching, kicking and struggling fiercely. Finally, airport police arrived at the crowd, blocking the incident from going further while dozens of others around recorded the scene.
In addition, a Spirit Airlines spokesperson denied reports that the flight was canceled due to a passenger infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Airport authorities confirmed that at least two people were arrested in the fight.
