RT reported that on May 21, Mayor Sergey Sobyanin said that Ukraine had carried out many unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) targeting the capital Moscow on the night of May 21 and early morning of May 22 (local time).
Mayor sobyanin said a total of 32 UAVs were shot down while approaching Moscow, but did not mention any casualties or material damage on the ground.
The Russian Defense Ministry also reported a series of UAV incursions in many areas across the country, including Orlov, Crimea, Ryazan, Kursk, Belgorod, Bryansk and Lipetsk. According to updates during the day, at least 249 drones were intercepted from 4am to 11:50pm on May 21.
Russian media reported that Moscow's three major airports, Domodedovo, Zhukovsky and Sheremetyevo, have been suspended due to airstrike warnings.
Evgeniya Khrustaleva, leader of Domodedovo district, where the airport has its name, said the air defense system in the area was immediately activated when it was attacked by Ukraine.
Although no one was injured, Khrustaleva said a piece of UAV fell into the yard of a kindergarten in Domodedovo district, forcing all children and staff to evacuate.
Ksenia Mishonova, a child rights Commissioner in Moscow, told TASS that at the time of the incident, there were 98 children in school and that no one was injured.
Many videos recorded by local people show a series of Ukrainian UAVs flying towards the capital, including footage of a plane being destroyed in the air.
Earlier, in early May, Ukraine also launched a large-scale UAV attack on Moscow, just days before the 80th anniversary of the German victory over the Socialist Republic.
Most of the UAVs were shot down by Russian air defenses, but one hit a residential building south of the city, but no casualties were reported.
