The press department of the Ukrainian Air Force informed: "Tonight, an air accident involving an An-26 aircraft of the Ukrainian Air Force occurred. The plane crashed while landing."
The information about the crash of the Ukrainian military plane was confirmed by Kharkov region Governor Alexei Kucher. According to him, the military plane crashed near Chuhuiv.
At least 22 people, including military students, were killed and two others were seriously injured when a Ukrainian air force plane crashed near Kharkiv in the eastern part of the country, according to the Ukrainian Ministry of Home Affairs.
The military transport plane was carrying a total of 28 passengers when it crashed and caught fire in the Ukrainian town of Chuhuiv, including 21 military students and 7 crews.
The Antonov-26 transport aircraft crashed at around 8:50 p.m. on September 25, local time, 2km from Chuhuiv military air base, emergency services said. The plane caught fire after the accident and the fire was extinguished after 1 hour.
Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Anton Gerashchenko informed: "22 people have died, the search for the other two is continuing".
"It was a shock. The cause of the accident cannot be determined yet," he said.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will visit the area on September 26. "We are urgently setting up a committee to investigate all the situations and causes of the tragedy," the Ukrainian president said.
The scene of the Ukrainian military plane crash - Chuhuiv town - is about 30km southeast of Kharkiv and about 100km west of the breakaway front line.
