On September 12 and 13, the 18th BRICS Summit took place in New Delhi (India) with the theme "Building resilient, innovative, cooperative and sustainable development platforms". The Summit adopted the New Delhi Declaration 2026 with a series of strategic commitments in many fields.
Regarding economy and trade, the bloc of emerging economies emphasized the overarching priority of promoting widespread reform of international economic governance institutions, opposing trade protectionism, unilateral tariff measures and illegal secondary sanctions that go against the principles of the World Trade Organization (WTO).
BRICS opposes any unilateral attempts to interfere in G20 membership, calling for the establishment of fair essential mineral supply chains and promoting sustainable development for developing countries.
Regarding political security, BRICS affirms its commitment to a multipolar world order based on international law and the United Nations Charter, and calls for reforming the United Nations towards democracy and greater representation, including increasing the role of women and southern countries.
The joint statement emphasized the inseparable principle of security, resolving conflicts from the root through diplomatic reconciliation and condemning all acts of terrorism as well as terrorist financing activities. The statement also expressed concern about new security risks regarding the space arms race and the danger of nuclear conflict.
Regarding regional hotspots, the conference requested Israel to withdraw troops from Lebanese territory, called for a long-term ceasefire in Sudan, supported Syria's sovereignty, opposed the politicization of humanitarian aid activities in Palestine and requested an end to the economic embargo on Cuba.
In addition, Russia and China, two permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, officially affirmed their support for Africa's efforts to win a permanent seat in this body, and supported the aspirations of Brazil and India to increase their greater representative role in the United Nations system.
The bloc also expressed comprehensive support for China in its role as Chair and host of the next BRICS Summit in 2027.
