On the morning of September 12, Politburo Member, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung and the high-level Vietnamese delegation left Hanoi Capital to attend the 18th BRICS Summit and work bilaterally in India from September 12-13 at the invitation of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, according to the Government Department of Information and Communications.
The official delegation accompanying the Prime Minister included Politburo Member, Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung; Central Party Committee members: Minister, Chairman of the Government Office Dang Xuan Phong; Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Truong Thang, Deputy Minister of National Defense; Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Long, Deputy Minister of Public Security; Deputy Minister of Finance Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc. Along with comrades: Deputy Chairman of the Government Office Don Tuan Phong; Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Hang; Assistant to the Prime Minister Tran Anh Tuan; Vietnamese Ambassador to India Trinh Minh Manh.
This is the first time Prime Minister Le Minh Hung has attended the BRICS Summit and the second time Vietnam has attended the BRICS Summit as a partner country of the BRICS group.
This is also one of Vietnam's important high-level multilateral foreign affairs activities in 2026, an important step in implementing the foreign policy of the 14th National Congress and the Politburo's Resolution on international integration in the new situation; continuing to consistently demonstrate the foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, self-strengthening, peace, friendship, cooperation and development, multilateralization, diversification of foreign relations and proactive, active, deep, and effective international integration of Vietnam.
In 2025, Vietnam officially became the 10th partner country of BRICS. With the role of a partner country, Vietnam has participated in activities within the BRICS framework in an active and proactive spirit, making responsible contributions to global common efforts, promoting multilateralism and international law, promoting international solidarity and cooperation, the role of developing countries, contributing to deepening bilateral relations with BRICS members.
Vietnam has also proactively chosen to participate in specific cooperation mechanisms and initiatives, suitable to the country's priorities, initially contributing to expanding cooperation channels, strengthening experience exchange and accessing new initiatives and technology trends, and taking advantage of cooperation resources, especially in science, technology, capital, and markets, serving the country's development strategy.
This working trip also demonstrates Vietnam's support for the BRICS 2026 Chairman - India; contributing to the substantive implementation of the Vietnam - India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, concretizing the results of the State visit to India by General Secretary and President To Lam (May 2026); and at the same time deepening and promoting substantive cooperation with member countries and BRICS partner countries.
