The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that, accepting the invitation of the Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his wife, the Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Ethiopia Abiy Ahmed Ali and his wife officially visited Vietnam and attended the Fourth Green Growth Summit and Global Government (P4G) from April 14 to April 17, 2025.
Ethiopia Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali was born on August 15, 1976. He is a bachelor's degree in Information Technology (University of Information Technology Microlink, Ethiopia); Master of conversion leadership (Greenwich University, England); Master of Business Administration (School of Management and Leader Leadstar, Ethiopia); Doctor of conflict conciliation (Hoa Binh and Security Research Institute, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia).
From 1993-2007, he enlisted and operated in the field of intelligence.
From 1994-1996, he joined the peacekeeping force in Rwanda.
In 2010, he was discharged from the army (rank of Lieutenant Colonel), becoming a senior member of the Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Party (EPRDF) and the Central Committee of Oromo People's Democracy (OPDO).
From 2008-2015, he was the Director of the Information Security Agency informed.
In October 2015 to November 2016, he was the Minister of Science and Technology.
Since 2018, he is the Chairman of the Ethiopian People's Democratic Revolution Front (later the prosperous party since 2019).
From April 2, 2018, he is Prime Minister Ethiopia (appointed in July in July 2021 with a 5 -year term).
Vietnam and Ethiopia established diplomatic relations on February 23, 1976.
The total two-way trade turnover between Vietnam and Ethiopia has reached an average of 10-15 million USD/year in the last 3 years.
In 2024, bilateral turnover reached US $ 13.1 million (of which Vietnam's exports reached US $ 7.11 million and imported US $ 6.06 million).
Vietnam exports mainly machinery and spare parts, fibers, textile fibers, chemical products and imported mainly textile, leather and coffee materials, coffee from Ethiopia.
In terms of investment, by the end of October 2024, Ethiopia has an investment project (valid) in Vietnam with a total investment of 10,000 USD. MK Group is a Vietnamese enterprise with a joint venture project in the field of smart card production in Ethiopia.
Vietnam and Ethiopia often support each other at multilateral mechanisms and forums.
The two countries have signed a framework agreement on cultural cooperation and framework agreement on economic, scientific and technical cooperation (1978), memorandum (Mou) cooperation between VCCI and the Chamber of Commerce and Ethiopia Industry (2009); Visa exemption agreement for diplomatic and official passport carriers (2018); Mou cooperates between the two Foreign Affairs (2018); Mou cooperates between the Ministry of Planning and Investment of Vietnam and the Ethiopia Investment Commission (2018).
