According to AFP, on August 26 (local time), the Nepal Tourism Board said that about 384 tourists, including 291 foreigners, were reported missing after a serious flash flood occurred in Rasuwa district, northern Nepal.
Mr. Sunil Sharma, spokesman for the Committee, said that the missing foreign tourists came from many countries such as India, Australia, the Netherlands, the United States, Malaysia, the UK and South Africa.
Images released by the Nepal Police show mudwater flowing through the mountain valleys in Rasuwa district, sweeping away many houses.
According to police, at least 8 bodies have been found after the flood. However, it is not yet clear whether any of these victims belong to the group of tourists who lost contact.
The flash flood occurred on the morning of August 26 at Syabrubesi - the starting point of the famous Langtang mountain range, as well as in some areas commonly used by tourists for pilgrimages to Kailash Mountain and Mansarovar Lake.
Nepalese Prime Minister Balendra Shah has convened an emergency meeting with the cabinet to assess the situation and discuss rescue and relief plans for flood victims.
Nepalese authorities also quickly mobilized search and rescue forces after the horrific flood. People living near rivers and streams were also warned to evacuate to safe places.
