On May 11 (Moscow time), TASS news agency quoted the statement of Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf as saying that Iran considers its 14-point proposal as the only option to resolve the conflict with the US.
In a post on social network X, Mr. Ghalibaf emphasized that there is no other choice but to recognize the rights of the Iranian people as stated in the 14-point proposal.
There is no alternative to recognizing the rights of the Iranian people stated in the 14-point proposal. Any other approach will be completely ineffective and will only lead to failure," the Iranian Parliament Speaker wrote.
According to him, prolonging the negotiation process will cause Washington to suffer greater losses.
Previously, in early May, Iran forwarded the 14-point proposal to the US through Pakistan. This document is described as a "roadmap" to move towards an agreement between the two sides.
Iran's proposal was made in response to the 9-point initiative that the US had sent earlier. However, the detailed contents of both documents have not yet been fully released.
According to Iran's Fars news agency, Tehran's response proposal does not include a 15-year suspension uranium in enrichment. This document also does not accept reopening the Strait of Hormuz before the two sides reach a final agreement.
The Strait of Hormuz is a strategic maritime route, playing an important role in the global transportation of oil and liquefied natural gas. Therefore, the issue of reopening this route is considered one of the key points in the exchanges between Iran and the US.
Ghalibaf's statement was made in the context that the two sides still have many differences regarding Iran's nuclear program, US sanctions and maritime security in the Gulf region. It is not yet clear how Washington will respond to the new stance from Tehran.
