Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi's visit "will focus on the Strait of Hormuz and maritime safety" and is also "the continuation of the consultations that we have started with Oman in the past month or two" - Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said.
The information was published by AFP based on a news report from Iranian state news agency IRNA.
The Strait of Hormuz is the main source of tension between Washington and Tehran. This strategic strait has been blockaded by Iran in response to the conflict launched by the US and Israel against Iran since the end of February.
The conflict was then ended by a ceasefire agreement on April 8, but since then sporadic violence has broken out, mostly caused by disagreements over the Strait of Hormuz.
Tehran affirmed that it must control this waterway, which circulates about 1/5 of the world's oil and liquefied natural gas, and has expressed its desire to charge fees for ships passing through here.
Before the conflict, the Strait of Hormuz did not have such powers even though it was within the territorial waters of Oman and Iran. According to international law, Iran and Oman cannot prevent travel or collect tolls.
