This is the first retaliation after the US used a B-2 fighter jets to launch a bomb that destroyed three Iranian nuclear facilities last weekend.
However, US President Donald Trump's reaction surprised the public. He not only confirmed the attack but also called it a "very weak reaction" from Iran.
13 missiles were shot down, 1 missile was tha for flying in the wrong direction. There were no casualties. Iran has informed early, and we have responded effectively, Trump wrote on the social network Truth Social.
According to Fox News Digital, the missiles used in the attack were short- and medium-range. The US Department of Defense confirmed that no soldiers were injured.
Notably, Tehran is said to have issued a warning to both the US and Qatar - a move reminiscent of how Iran had "responsed in a controlling manner" after the US assassination of General Qassem Soleimani in 2020.
President Trump even thanked Iran for assisting in reducing casualties and called on both sides to goes towards peace and harmony in the region. He said he would favor to encourage Israel to do the same.
On the side of Qatar - a close ally of both the US and Iran, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the attack as an "occurrent insult to sovereignty".
Spokesperson Majed Al Ansari said Qatari air defense had successfully intercepted Iranian missiles and ensured the safety of the area.
Al-Udeid is the largest US military base in the Middle East, with about 10,000 troops stationed. The base acts as the brains of the Central Command (CENTCOM), which coordinates anti-terrorism operations in Iraq and Syria.
Just a month ago, President Trump visited Al-Udeid and signed a $1 billion arms sale deal with Qatar.
After the attack, the US Embassy in Kuwait issued a security warning, limiting entry and exit to the base. Some diplomatic staff in Bahrain are also allowed to work remotely.
Iranian President Mahmoud Pezeshkian said: "We do not start war, but we do not let the country's wounds be ignored." He emphasized that he will "protect national security with faith and determination".
Meanwhile, neighboring countries such as Kuwait, Iraq, Bahrain and the UAE have simultaneously closed their airspace to prevent further conflict.
