President Donald Trump informed on July 1, local time: "My representatives had a long and effective meeting with Israelis today on Gaza. Israel has agreed to the necessary conditions to complete a 60-day ceasefire. During that time, we will work with all parties to end the conflict."
In a statement on the social network Truth Social, President Trump said that Qatar and Egypt, which have made efforts to promote peace, will make a final proposal.
The two US officials revealed that Hamas' consent is needed for the ceasefire to take effect.
Earlier, on July 1, Qatari officials had given Hamas and Israel a new proposal for a 60-day ceasefire.
The ceasefire was supported by the Trump administration. The proposal was finalized after months of covert efforts led by Donald Trump's special adviser, Steve Witkoff, the source said.
The ceasefire proposal was presented on the same day by Israeli Strategy Minister Ron Dermer to Washington to meet with senior US officials.
The ceasefire in Gaza was announced just days after Qatar helped mediate a ceasefire between Iran and Israel following US and Israeli airstrikes on Iran's nuclear program and months after the initial ceasefire in Gaza was rejected by Hamas.
Hamas has long pushed for a permanent ceasefire. Therefore, it is not known whether Hamas will agree to a temporary 60-day ceasefire. Hamas also maintains its main demand for an end to the war and that the force will continue to take control of Gaza.
