Information announced by Israeli Defense Minister Katz on April 6.
According to Iranian state news agency Tasnim, the attack targeted the Jam and Damavand petrochemical facilities - important parts of Iran's energy and export networks.
Mr. Katz described these locations as "important assets, responsible for about half of Iran's petrochemical production".
The attack on Asaluyeh took place after Israel's military attack last week on oil refineries in the province of Khuzestan, southwestern Iran.
Mr. Katz declared that these 2 complexes account for about 85% of Iran's petrochemical exports and have been neutralized.
The Israeli Defense Minister said that the attack is "a strong economic blow" that will cause Iran to lose "tens of billions of USD" in profits from petrochemicals.
On the same day, April 6, Israel announced that it had killed a senior Iranian commander in an attack in Tehran.
According to Israel, the country's air force destroyed Asghar Bagheri - commander of the Special Task Force of the Quds Force of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The Quds Force conducts IRGC operations abroad.
This is the latest senior official of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Iranian army and the Basij paramilitary group to be killed since the Iranian conflict broke out at the end of February.
Tehran has not commented on Israel's statement.
Earlier, on the morning of April 6, Israel announced that it had killed Major General Majid Khademi, head of the IRGC intelligence agency.
