Speaking to VNA on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day on September 2, Head of the Lao Central External Relations Commission Bounleua Phandanouvong said that he has a very close relationship with Vietnam, has studied for many years in Vietnam and later worked in Vietnam many times.
He personally witnessed the strong development process of Vietnam, during the 80 years of the country's founding, especially after nearly 40 years of implementing the Doi Moi process, Vietnam has achieved great, comprehensive and historic achievements.
The Head of the Lao Central External Relations Commission expressed that Vietnam has maintained political stability, built a strong national defense and security and is considered by the international community to be one of the top safe countries in Asia. This is an important foundation for attracting foreign investment, creating momentum for economic growth. Vietnam has affirmed its international position when it successfully held the role of non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council twice.
As a close neighbor and having a special relationship with Vietnam, Laos is very proud and considers this an achievement of its own. Vietnam's successes will be a great source of encouragement and support for Laos in the cause of protecting, building and developing the country.
Mr. Bounleua Phandanouvong expressed his firm belief that, under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, especially the leadership of senior leaders, with a broad vision and grasping the practical requirements of the development situation, Vietnam will continue to achieve greater new achievements in the cause of protecting, building and developing the country, achieving the goals set by the Party and State.
Not only stopping at admiration, the people of Laos and Vietnam have a deep reason to hold on to each other firmly, which is a loyal and steadfast historical relationship, formed and tested through years of arduous struggle against colonialism and imperialism.
Under the leadership of the Indochinese Communist Party, the people of Laos and Vietnam stood shoulder to shoulder in the fight against common enemy, from the resounding Dien Bien Phu Victory in the five-year global earthquake in 1954 to the great victory in the spring of 1975. Tens of thousands of soldiers and outstanding children of the two peoples of Laos and Vietnam have sacrificed for independence and freedom. That special relationship of solidarity and fighting is a priceless common asset, a rule of existence and development of both countries.
Today, the Laos - Vietnam relationship continues to develop comprehensively and deeply in all political - foreign affairs fields with special trust; national defense - security cooperation is close and an important pillar to ensure stability; the economy - trade and investment are constantly expanding, with Vietnam being one of the leading investors in Laos. The two countries are coordinating to implement many strategic projects, including the Vientiane - Hanoi expressway, opening up new opportunities for economic, transportation and tourism connections between the two countries.
According to the Head of the Lao Central External Relations Commission, in the coming time, the two sides need to continue to promote economic cooperation to match good political relations; at the same time, it is necessary to strengthen education and propaganda for the younger generation to understand the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties, two States and peoples of Laos and Vietnam, so that this sacred sentiment can be passed down to the future.
