The video was filmed on a curved road around the mountainside in Xiongtsuring City, Shandong Province, China on October 11. A terrifying moment suddenly occurred when the mountain slope began to break, then a huge mass of rock and soil slid down, blocking the road and falling into the river next to it. Vehicles traveling on the road stopped in time to avoid the landslide.
Because the mountain terrain is still showing signs of instability, local authorities have deployed necessary measures to prevent landslides from occurring again.
Also on October 11, The Straits Times reported that authorities in Siam Tay and Shandong provinces in northern China were forced to activate an emergency response in unfavorable weather conditions with prolonged heavy rains causing severe flooding.
China's National Disaster mitigation Committee and the Ministry of Emergency Management have sent support teams to help mitigate damage in affected areas.
As of October 10, in Son Tay alone, 1.75 million people have been affected by floods, of which 120,100 people have had to be evacuated. The report said that 17,000 houses in Son Tay were destroyed while large agricultural areas were submerged in floodwaters and 60 coal mines were forced to temporarily suspend operations due to storms. At least 6 people have died due to flooding.
The Western Ship Province was also significantly affected by storms and floods, with at least 70,000 people having to evacuate due to landslides and floods in the same area where the video was recorded. At least 12 people were killed.
According to SCMP, China has seen increased heavy rains since the beginning of 2021. A report released by the Ministry of Emergency Management on October 10 said that heavy rain, discharge and flooding were the main causes, accounting for 70% of the total 792 people lost or missing in natural disasters from January to September 2021 in China.
