On the evening of June 18, the US Embassy in Vietnam announced the successful transfer of patrol ship CSB 8022 - an event marking another important milestone in defense and security cooperation between the two countries.
The transferred ship, formerly known as the Mellon Patrol Ship of American Coast Guard, began its journey from Seattle (W Washington), with stops in Hawaii and Guam before arriving in Vietnam.

Interim grandmaster Courtney Beale and Major General Ngo Binh Minh, Commander of Vietnam Coast Guard Region 3, welcomed CSB 8022 in Ninh Hoa, marking the official arrival of the ship in Vietnam.
Todays ship transition reflects the continuous development of security cooperation between the two countries throughout 30 years of diplomatic relations, said Interim Advocate Beale.

The United States and Vietnam respect each others sovereignty, territorial integrity and political institutions, and are firmly committed to supporting the common vision of peace and stability, as well as prosperity and security in the Indo-Pacific region, she reaffirmed.
This is the third patrol vessel to be transferred under the US-Vietnam Memorandum of Understanding on Defense Cooperation, after CSB 8020 (formerly USCGC Morgenthau) in 2017, and CSB 8021 (formerly USCGC John Midgett) in 2020.
Through this cooperation, the US and Vietnam will enhance the development of the ability to enforce the law at sea, search and rescue, humanitarian relief and disaster relief, while supporting sovereignty protection capacity, contributing to peace, security and stability in the region.
