According to military aviation surveillance sources, at least 3 B-52H Stratofortress bombers of the US Air Force have landed at RAF Fairford base (in the UK's Gloucestershire region). This is one of the few bases in Europe capable of receiving and operating US heavy strategic bombers.
These B-52s are believed to have originated from Minot Air Force Base in North Dakota.
The deployment of the B-52 took place just days after several B-1B Lancer bombers were also deployed to RAF Fairford, showing that Washington is increasing long-range air strike forces in Europe amid increasing tensions with Iran.
Strategic bombers deployed in this way allow the US to significantly shorten flight time to the Middle East region, while increasing the frequency of attacks compared to direct departure from US territory.
In recent days, B-52s have participated in attacks targeting military targets in Iran with AGM-158 JASSM stealth cruise missiles.
These weapons can be launched from a distance outside Iranian airspace, helping aircraft attack without having to directly penetrate deep into the enemy's air defense area.
The use of the B-52 also reflects US tactical calculations. Compared to stealth aircraft such as the B–2 Spirit or F–35 Lightning II fighter, the B-52 has a much larger weapon carrying capacity and operates effectively in long-range air strike operations.
When equipped with long-range cruise missiles, this type of aircraft can attack targets while maintaining a safe distance from the enemy's air defense system.
According to military experts, the strengthening of bombers in the UK may also indicate that the air strike campaign is moving into a new phase with higher intensity.
If necessary, strategic bombers can carry large volumes of precision guided bombs or cruise missiles to attack military targets, missile bases, or strategic infrastructure.
In addition to RAF Fairford, other US military bases in the Indian Ocean region are also being used to support the operation, including the base on Diego Garcia Island.
Military transport flights and refueling aircraft also frequently appear here to maintain the operation of long-range air strike forces.
Amid the escalating conflict in the Middle East, the US strengthening of strategic bomber forces shows that Washington is preparing for the possibility of maintaining prolonged airstrikes to put pressure on Iran.
The B-52 Stratofortress is one of the oldest strategic bombers still in service in the US Air Force.
Although put into operation in the 1950s, this type of aircraft still plays an important role thanks to its long range, large weapon carrying capacity and the ability to deploy many types of modern guided weapons.
