RT reported that on April 28, US Vice President J.D. Vance said that Ukraine could not win the conflict with Russia, and said that Russia would hardly be able to "cally" if the war continued for a few more years.
Speaking on a podcast by political activist Charlie Kirk, Mr. Vance said that the possibility of Ukraine reclaiming all of its territory and everything returning to the way it was before the conflict, as many media outlets expected, "is not the reality we are living in".
Vance Vice President warned that if the conflict does not end soon, millions more people will be killed and there is a risk of a nuclear war, while emphasizing that this conflict needs to end.
The Vice President also shared that despite facing many difficulties from both sides, many times US officials felt frustrated with both Ukraine and Russia and only wanted to give up, but President Donald Trump urged them to continue their efforts to negotiate.
The above statements were made in the context of Russian President Vladimir Putin announcing that Russian forces will carry out a 3-day ceasefire, starting from May 8, on the occasion of the Victory Day in World War II.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has since accused Moscow of exploiting the situation to manipulate public opinion, and called for an urgent implementation of a 30-day ceasefire.
Meanwhile, Russia reiterated that previous ceasefire agreements had been violated by Ukraine, including a 30-day energy war agreement mediated by the US last month and a 30-hour ceasefire agreement on Christmas Day.
President Vladimir Putin said that for a comprehensive ceasefire to succeed, Ukraine needs to stop the military mobilization campaign, while the West must stop transferring weapons to Kiev.
