According to CNN, the Texas Environmental Quality Commission has advised people not to use any water found in Naegleria fowleri supplied by the Brazosport Water Department on the evening of September 25.
"The Texas Environmental Quality Commission under the direction of the Governor's Office is working with the Brazosport Water Supply Agency to address the issue as soon as possible," CNN quoted the announcement.
According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), brain-eating amoeba is often found in soil, warm lakes, rivers and hot springs. It can also be found in poorly maintained or unsterilized swimming pools with CN and in industrial discharge from factories.
People in the cities of Lake Jackson, Freeport, Angleton, Brazoria, Richwood, Oyster Creek, Clute and Rosenberg, Texas, as well as the Dow Chemical plant in Freeport are advised not to use water.
According to Mayor Bob Sipple, the scale and severity of the incident were so large that his city could not handle it alone.
From 2009 to 2018, only 34 cases were reported in the US. Of the reported cases, 30 people were infected with water.
According to the CDC, 145 people were infected from 1962 to 2018 and only four survived.
