US President Donald Trump believes that there are now better alternatives to the Strait of Hormuz in transporting oil to global markets.
Speaking in an interview with Fox News, Mr. Trump commented on maritime transport data showing that the number of ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz is decreasing, and affirmed that this waterway route is still open if people want to pass through.
However, the US leader emphasized that Iran is the only country not allowed to use this sea route.
We are not opening this route to Iran. That is the only country closed. This route is closed to Iran in both directions, both in and out," Mr. Trump said.
According to the US President, recent developments have prompted the search for alternatives to the Strait of Hormuz in oil transportation.
A lot has happened in the past few months. Oil pipelines are being built. We have better alternatives, including Texas and Alaska," Trump added.
