The US for the first time expressed support for a large coalition of Ukrainian allies, pledging to provide security assurances, including commitments to support Kiev.
This commitment was made at the Paris conference of the "Alliance of Ready Countries", mainly including European countries, to strengthen assurances to reassure Kiev in the event of reaching a ceasefire with Russia.
Unlike previous meetings, this conference was attended by US special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, along with General Alexus Grynkewich, the highest-ranking US military commander in Europe. Previously, Mr. Grynkewich discussed in detail security assurances with European military leaders.
After the conference, Mr. Steve Witkoff said that President Donald Trump "resolutely stands behind the security frameworks". According to him, these measures are aimed at deterring any further attacks on Ukraine and protecting the country if attacks occur.
Mr. Jared Kushner emphasized that if Ukraine reaches a final agreement, it needs to be secured by a solid deterrent capability and effective support mechanisms.
The joint statement stated that allies will participate in the US-led ceasefire monitoring and verification mechanism, based on technological means such as drones, sensor systems and satellites, and not deploy US troops.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky wrote on Telegram that these agreements are a signal that Europe and the entire coalition are ready to work seriously for real security.
Mr. Zelensky noted that it is still necessary to clarify the method of supervision, as well as support and funding for the Ukrainian army, and thanked the US for being ready to play a supporting role in the fields of security, ceasefire monitoring and reconstruction.
Although the statement has not been officially approved by the US, European officials appreciate the participation of US special envoys, considering this a sign that Washington supports the security framework.
The focus of discussion is now shifting to legally binding security assurances, including the ability to use military, intelligence, logistics and diplomatic capabilities.
According to the statement, a multinational force led by Europe will be established to support the reconstruction of the Ukrainian army and strengthen deterrence capabilities, with support from the United States.
France and the UK have signed a statement of intention to deploy multinational forces after reaching a ceasefire.
