According to Xinhua News Agency, the US National Weather Service (NWS) said that the extreme heat wave in the Southwest of the United States has caused nighttime temperatures in some places to set records.
Warnings of intense heat also continue to be maintained in locations in California, Nevada and Arizona.
In Death Valley, California, the lowest temperature in the night of August 21 (local time) remained at 38.3 degrees Celsius, breaking the record of 37.8 degrees Celsius previously recorded by the NWS on August 21, 1919.
Desert Rock - Mercury weather station, Nevada also recorded the lowest temperature at night at 28.9 degrees Celsius, equivalent to the record set on August 21, 2018.
According to NWS, even at night, temperatures in these areas are still unusually high, showing that the heat has not shown signs of cooling down.
The NWS office in Las Vegas said that hot weather warnings are being applied in Death Valley National Park, Las Vegas Valley, Mead Lake, Mohave Lake, downstream area of the Colorado River and will last until the evening of August 23.
The NWS office in San Diego assessed that high temperatures will continue next week. The agency also warned that high nighttime temperatures make it difficult for some areas to cool down, making the heat wave last longer.
