Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) shot down were mainly in areas bordering Ukraine. This is part of a series of drone strikes by Ukraine against targets deep in Russian territory, more than three years since the conflict began.
According to information from Russia, among the intercepted UAVs, 30 appeared in the sky of Bryansk region, 29 in Kursk and 17 in Belgorod - 3 areas near the Ukrainian border. There were 18 UAVs shot down in the Oryol region, which has been the target of repeated Ukrainian UAV attacks on oil facilities.
In Moscow, at least four Ukrainian UAVs were destroyed as they approached the city. Mayor Sergei sobyanin said rescue forces are handling the locations where the UAVs crashed, but there have been no reports of damage. One of Moscow's main airports has suspended flights due to the incident.
Russia's civil aviation agency, Rosaviatsiya, later announced that it had lifted flight restrictions issued overnight for safety reasons. These restrictions have applied to airports in St. Petersburg. Petersburg, Kaluga, Moscow and Nizhny Novgorod.
In parallel with repelling UAV attacks, the Russian Defense Ministry said that these forces have taken control of two settlements in Ukraine: Sobolivka in the Kharkiv region and Piddubne in the Donetsk region. This is a new step forward for Russia in its military campaign on land in eastern Ukraine.
According to other sources, the Russian military also attacked a Ukrainian air base, a component manufacturing facility for long-range UAVs and enemy ammunition depots.
