On January 26, in an exclusive interview with Kommersant newspaper, Dmitry Medvedev - Vice Chairman of the Russian Security Council - issued warnings about a nuclear war scenario.
The focus of the conversation revolved around the incident of President Vladimir Putin's mansion being attacked by drones (UAVs) recently.
Mr. Medvedev affirmed that this serious event is not just a simple provocation or a small-scale sabotage activity. According to him, targeting the head of state directly at his official residence can completely be seen as a reason for the war. This is a valid legal basis for Russia to trigger a retaliatory strike with special weapons.
Military observers believe that the term "special weapons" that he refers to is the arsenal of tactical nuclear weapons or other weapons of mass destruction that Russia possesses.
To reinforce this tough argument, Mr. Medvedev painted a picture of the current world order. He believes that Russia's survival is completely dependent on its nuclear arsenal.

If Russia did not possess nuclear weapons, it is very likely that our country would no longer exist on the world map today," Medvedev declared.
Because of this global insecurity, Mr. Medvedev predicts that the "nuclear club" will continue to expand in the future. Despite the opposition of Western powers, many other countries will realize that possessing nuclear weapons is the optimal solution to self-defense and avoid bullying.
In addition to military warnings, Mr. Medvedev also sent a diplomatic ultimatum to the US regarding the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (New START).
He said that the US still has until February 5th to make a final decision on extending this treaty for another year as proposed by President Putin.
